Pre-Congress Tour

On all of the pre- and post-congress tours, travel from Beijing or Kunming to the starting point of the tour is included. Similarly, travel from the end point of the tour to Hohhot and from Hohhot to Beijing or Kunming is included.See the Airline Travel section of this Announcement for further guidance. Quoted prices will not change for people who have completed registration and paid the relevant tour charges. An extra $US50 will be charged for registrations received after 1 March 2008. If you wish to make alternative arrangements, you should contact the Secretariat office. Early registration for pre-Congress tours is encouraged.

1. Gansu tour

   

Period: 5 days [23 (Monday) in Lanzhou to 27 (Friday) June 2008]
Time Schedule:Click Here
Route: By bus starting from Lanzhou (the capital of Gansu province) on 23rd June, crossing the Hexi Corridor (a part of the Silk Road) to reach Dunhuang City on 26th June; and fly to Hohhot on 27 June.
During the tour, the participants will visit alpine meadows, yak farms, Tibetan and Yugu herders, and CIDA, GEF demonstration sites in the Qilian Mountain; then travel across Oasis crop and alfalfa production areas and the desert (Gobi) to experience Northwestern China history and culture, especially at Dunhuang City.
Cost: $US 800 per person, covering the expense of food, accommodation, transportation and air travel from Dunhuang to Hohhot; $US 200 per person from Beijing to Lanzhou and $US 80 per person from Hohhot to Beijing.
Tour groups must include no less than 30 people, but no more than 150 people.

2. Yunnan tour

   

Period:5 days [23 (Monday) in Kunming to 27 (Friday) June 2008]

Route: By bus starting from Kunming (the capital of Yunnan province) on 23rd June, crossing Dali, Lijiang (ancient town) to reach Zhongdian City on 26 June; and fly to Hohhot on 27 June.
During the tour, participants will visit temperate pastures, forestry, dairy buffalo farms, rice-ryegrass production systems, beef farms, yak farms, Tibetan herders and 26 ethnic groups to experience the biodiversity of nature and culture in Southwestern China.
Cost: $US800 per person, covering the expense of food, accommodation, transportation and air travel from Zhongdian to Hohhot; $US 260 per person from Beijing to Kunming and $US 80 per person from Hohhot to Beijing.
Tour groups must include no less than 30 people, but no more than 150 people.

3. Hunlunbeir tour

   

Period:5 days [23 (Monday) in Hailar to 27 (Friday) June 2008]
Time Schedule:Click Here
Route:Traveling from Hailar (major city in the eastern part of Inner Mongolia), through Hunlunbeir natural grassland, Manchuria City (China and Russian border city), back to Hailar; and fly to Hohhot on 27th June.
During the tour, participants will visit a number of sites of natural grasslands and forest, Hulun Nur Lake, and the Grassland Ecosystems Field Experiment Station; and experience the culture of Mongolia, Ewenke people.
Cost: $US800 per person, covering the expense of food, accommodation, transportation and air travel from Hailar to Hohhot; $US160 per person from Beijing to Hailar and $US 80 per person from Hohhot to Beijing.
Tour groups must include no less than 30 people, but no more than 300 people.

4. Xilingol Steppe tour

   

Period: 5 days [23 (Monday) in Xilinhot to 27 (Friday) June 2008]

Route: By bus, traveling from Xilinhot (Inner Mongolia Steppe Central City), through Inner Mongolia typical grasslands, Arsihatu Stone Forest (National Geological Park), to reach Hot Spring Town and then by bus to Hohhot on 27th June.
During the tour, participants will visit a number of sites of dry and typical steppe, national nature reserves and tourist attractions in Xilingol and Keshiketeng, view the research at the Grassland Ecosystem Station of the Chinese Academy of Science, and experience the national culture of Mongolia.A workshop sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service on sustainability indicators will be conducted during the tour.
Cost: $US700 per person, covering the expense of food, accommodation, bus transportation from Xilinhot to Hohhot; $US75 air travel per person from Beijing to Xilinhot and $US 80 per person air travel from Hohhot to Beijing.
Tour groups must include no less than 30 people, but no more than 300 people.
